Sis in China

This last few weeks have been very hectic for me due to my sister coming to visit for 8 months. Which is why I haven’t been posting for a the last week and a bit because I have been helping her settle in.  It’s weird having my sister around again since I have barely seen her in the last 4 years.

Luckily for me her and Sammi are getting along great. My sister is a pretty good cook so i get to eat some healthier foods such as wraps and veggies so my recently acquired belly should soon be on its way out.

Just in time for the wedding photos

I was thinking we laowai should get cards printed up, English one side, Chinese on the other, that said something to the effect of:

“When you point, stare, laugh, talk about me thinking I cannot possibly understand, and even shout “Hello” just because I am foreign, I feel like an animal in the zoo. But I’m not an animal at the zoo, I’m a real person, just like you. Let’s all try to treat each other with respect.”

My Chinese isn’t up to translating it, but once we have the text in Chinese, it’s so cheap to get a few hundred cards printed up. Anybody up for it?

Not the drive by hello-ers! There have been several instances in the past couple days though where’s I’ve thought, man, if I had those cards right now….

The day after I wrote this, Erik and I were chased through a public park by a pack of kids shouting “Hello! Hello! Ok! Monkey Monkey!!!”

I was thinking….did somebody read that thing about being a zoo animal and send these kids to torment me??
